Our latest collaboration is steeped in Cubist ambition with visual artist Dev Mehta leading the charge. Working with mediums like linen, canvas and jute, his studio (and gallery) tucked away in Mumbai’s Byculla serves as a springboard to distill everyday life into spontaneous works of art. The EB X Dev Mehta tee features original artwork by the artist.

EB: What inspires you?

DM: A lot of things inspire my art. But most importantly, it is the artist who inspires me.

EB: Talk to us about your most recent work.  

DM: A lot of things have contributed to my current work. Most importantly, it is Cubism and Persian art, which you can call book art or miniature art, sometimes even courtyard paintings.

EB: Plans for the future?

DM: I want my paintings to reach globally and people to know my art. I want the whole world to see them. My dream is to have my paintings at MOCA in San Francisco and even the MET in New York.

EB: Sweet. Brands you love?

DM: My favourite brands to rock are Nike, Onitsuka Tiger, and Asics. 

EB: Advice to young artists? 

DM: Piece of advice that I would give to emerging artists is to focus on making art and just be yourself.
