Extra Butter Smooth Talks presents: DJ TRYPS

The next installment of Smooth Talks is a love letter to bollywood and techno music via Trishina Kirpalani known by her stage name Tryps. Her sound is strung between high BPM techno and reverb-drenched Lata Mangeskar. Think dreamy ‘90s crooners fused with good old four-on-the-floor dance music.

“I have a playlist for pretty much every feeling, and that makes me feel really in touch with the music, and that's what I wanna put out.” It tracks that Kirpalani mixes music exactly how one consumes it—led by intuition and keen to sample new sounds and genres from the world. “The goal is to be a breath of fresh air for my audience…introduce them to different styles of music outside of just the mainstream stuff,” she says.

Representation is big on her agenda and she hopes to take the music she grew up with to the world. You’ll hear Hindi wash over the room just as often as you’ll hear Spanish, English, Tamil…if it inspires her, you’ll hear it sampled in her set.

God’s gospel when she says, “I would describe my fashion sense as Turtle from Entourage meets Billie Eilish.” Head straight to the EB x DJ Tryps collab first, and in the general direction of our new curation (new arrivals) to emulate her style, which quoted directly is Y2K hip-hop, streetwear and sportswear inspired. “My go to sleeper silhouette for gigs is probably Air Jordans,” she finishes.
